Pre-Algebra I with Seema:
We started Chapter 7 covering ratios, proportions and unit
rates on this snowy day shortened week. My sense is the students have
enjoyed this unit so far and we will continue with this material after
break. Today we started our review for the midterm which will be on next
Wednesday, Dec 20th. I have handed out the general areas that
will be covered on the midterm (Chapter 1-6 plus a few problems from
Chapter 7 for extra credit). We will practice some more on Mon and
Tuesday next week and I have suggested that they look over old tests,
quizzes, review packets to see which areas they may need to focus in on.
Next Thursday we will have math game day to celebrate all of their hard
work this semester.
Pre-Algebra II with Jared:
We began the week with some review, and then took our chapter test on Tuesday. Students then started learning about percents, and how to convert between percents, decimals, and fractions. On Friday they reviewed these skills online. We will be having a mid-year assessment on the Friday when we get back from winter break. I have told students that I am putting an optional review packet in their parent mailboxes.
Pre-Algebra III with Ann:
We finished up Chapter 5 on ratios and proportions. Students worked with basic trigonometric ratios to find the length of the sides of triangles when given angle measurements. On Friday, we began Chapter 6 which focuses on percent and probability. Students will take their midterm when we return from winter break.
Algebra I with Molly:
We began the week with a review of chapter 5 and took the chapter 5 test. We began chapter 6 with a study of rate of change and the slope of a line. Students received an optional study packet to help them prepare for our mid-term assessment. They will have the opportunity to take this test next Wednesday and Thursday (it is a two day test) or they may choose to take it on the Wednesday and Thursday when we return in January.
Language Arts with Jared:
Students continued working on their grammar unit (irregular verbs), and we reviewed our vocabulary unit. Some students took their vocabulary quiz on Friday, while others are opting to take it on Monday. In our literature unit, we made progress in our novels, and we continue to analyze the characters, discuss unfamiliar terms, and make educated guesses about the plot. Seventh and eighth graders also listened to an episode from the radio show "The Lone Ranger," as it was featured in their novels.

A reminder: students are
informed about their work in different ways. They submit work/create an online
portfolio, assignments and grades are sent home weekly through Google
Classroom, they reflect on their art in both Artsonia and with Google
Classroom. This is a great way to check in with students about grades and
assignments.

Computer Lab with Lorraine:
The class continues to work on their Google Sheets projects. This week we continued to work on the Coffee Shop inventory. In this project, the student entered the data, and had to determine the amount order if the average amount sold is greater than the Inventory on hand. Next students had to determine the quantity to recorder and calculate the cost and total cost of the reorder. This week we practiced using the IF function, SUM . Students were introduced to the SUM function and will review all of these next week. As well as learn a new function called COUNTIF.
