Pre-Algebra I with Seema:
We have been in intense review mode this week. So far we have covered place value, prime factorization and GCF, equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting decimals and fractions (LCM/LCD), order of operation including exponents and mean, median, mode, range. The students took a cumulative review 1 quiz today and this will help me recognize which areas from these we need to review more. Next week we will continue with multiplying and dividing fractions, setting up ratio and proportion equations and percentages. I anticipate that the PA1 end of year test will be around Wed April 25th.

Pre-Algebra II with Jared:
We spent this week working online with transformations. Students learned how to translate an image, reflect an image, and rotate an image on the coordinate plane. We then reviewed what we had learned this chapter. On Friday we took our chapter test.
Pre-Algebra III with Ann:
We worked with graphing data this week. Students studied frequency tables, histograms, scatter plots, trend lines, and bar graphs. They took a quiz on the material on Friday. We have also begun our review for the end of the year test that will be May 1. Students are taking short review quizzes each day so that I may provide them with individually focused review sheets from which they may study.

on Friday.
Language Arts with Jared:
This week students finished their novels, and will be taking a test on these books next week. We also finished our Authors' Tea projects, and have been practicing reading them aloud, in anticipation of next week's Authors' Tea presentations.
World Studies & U.S. History with Ann:
This week, we have been studying the Great Depression and the New Deal. Students have had some great questions related to credit, banking, and the stock market. In pairs (6th and 7th, individually in 8th), students are putting together collages to illustrate how the depression and the New Deal impacted various groups of people during the 1930s. It is amazing to see the connections they are making to today!

Art with Patti:
Students
are given engagement grades for each class. As a reminder, students are
informed about their work in different ways. They submit work/create an online
portfolio, assignments and grades are sent home weekly through Google
Classroom, they reflect on their art in both Artsonia and with Google
Classroom. This is a great way to check in with students about
Sixth - Weaving - Small Woven Tote: Students
explore fiber arts 4/10 & 4/11 - Students continued to add
to their small totes. Two "wingspans" each day. Foreground, Middleground, Background Students
will complete a project that includes foreground, middleground, background,
overlapping elements, and diminishing size. Students are encouraged to BE
CREATIVE with theme choice, thinking beyond typical landscape. Art Project: "Fun" Reflection For
this project, students create an artwork based on the theme "fun".
They are to use any medium that best fits
the project, thinking about composition and creating a focal point. Art
Project: Symbolic Portrait Think
about portraiture in an abstract way. What are likes, how time is spent,
favorite foods, hobbies, family representation, favorite places to visit,
personal beliefs, how you define yourself. Create an artwork that is a
representation of yourself, combine several visual illustrations to convey a
composition of imagery representing self without the focal point being a
self-portrait. Paint, collage, draw, text and lettering can be used to create
this work.
Seventh - Surrealism: Students learn about
Salvador Dali and the surrealistic art style 4/11 - Students
finished their Surrealistic artwork with finishing coloring and mounting
together with realistic for the completed artwork. 4/10 -
Students added color to their surrealistic line drawings. They worked in
layers, filling in with the lightest value and adding darker shapes to imply
dimension. Self Guided Clay Project Students
are using the skills and inspiration from the clay trinket box they have
completed. They are exploring other ways to use pinch, slab, coil, sculpting
and joining clay pieces of their own design. Art Project: Using "Space" Students
completed an art journal warm-up, which features positive and negative space.
For this projects students will expand on the idea of using the element of art,
space. How do artists create the look of depth, and add dimension on a
two-dimensional surface? Students need to think about foreground/background,
how to use value, how to use size, how does color change to show depth? Art
Project: "Fun" Reflection For this
project, students created an artwork based on the theme "fun". They
are to use any medium that best fits the project, thinking about composition
and creating a focal point.
Eighth - Romare Bearden: Collage 4/12 - Students
finished their observational drawing by adding color. They filled the shapes
with the lightest value and added darker shapes to imply form. 4/11 - For this drawing, students drew from
observation, but using realistic lines. Art Project: "My World" For
this project students created an artwork based on the
theme "My World". They are to use any medium that best fits the
project, thinking about composition and creating a focal point. Art Project: All About Color To
further explore color (one of the elements of art) students will create a
representational project where the composition includes all of the hues in the
color wheel, plus neutrals, and black and white.
