Pre-Algebra I with Seema:
We continued our study of chapter 11 with multiplying and dividing positive and negative integers. The students were also introduced to the coordinate plane and solved algebraic equations that now include negative integers. Today the enjoyed math games day with the PA3 students. When we return from break, we will continue the chapter by learning how to graph equations.

Pre-Algebra II with Jared:
We wrapped up our chapter this week with a discussion on finding the volume of 3D objects. We focused on the fact that for the solids were were looking at, a simple V=Bh formula would suffice (and we briefly explored cones and cylinders, whose volume was just 1/3 of that). On Wednesday and Thursday we reviewed the chapter, and the previous quiz that we had taken. We took our chapter test on Friday.
Pre-Algebra III with Ann:
We wrapped up Chapter 8- Geometry this week. The students learned to bisect angles and lines using a compass and protractor. Friday, we had a very rare Math Games day with the PA1 students. When we return from break, we will begins Chapter 9- 3D objects.

Algebra I with Molly:
Language Arts with Jared:
We began the week by reviewing our vocabulary - turning in our vocabulary sentences, talking about and giving specific examples of some difficult words, and working on a crossword puzzle. They then took their unit quiz. In our group projects, students are still plugging along in their picture books, and we will continue to work on them for a bit after spring break.
World Studies & U.S. History with Ann:
This week was spent putting the final touches on History Night projects and presentations. Students presented to their classmates, the elementary students, and History Night guests. When we return from break, students will complete annotated bibliographies and process papers for their projects before competing in the regional NHD competition at Radford on March 23rd. We will also begin studying the 1920s!

Spanish with Corinne:
Sunshine Spanish
HS Spanish I, part II
Sunshine A
This week students finished Chapter 3B, while also reviewing
vocabulary from the previous chapter about food. We will not have a test on
this chapter until we return from Spring Break.
Sunshine B
This week we continued to work with the new vocabulary in
Chapter 8A, talking about vacations. Students also learned how to conjugate –er
and –ir infinitive verbs in the preterite (past) tense. We will continue to
work with this chapter when we return from break.
This week students worked on their group projects for Noche
Cultural. I will assign a due date for these projects when we return from
break.

break.
HS Spanish II, part II
This week students worked on their movies and movie scripts
that will take the place of a Chapter 7A and then presented them on Friday.
They were all very wonderful and I will have grades for the students when they
return from Spring Break.
Art with Patti:
Students are given engagement grades for each class. As a reminder,
students are informed about their work in different ways. They submit
work/create an online portfolio, assignments and grades are sent home weekly
through Google Classroom, they reflect on their art in both Artsonia and with
Google Classroom. This is a great way to check in with students about grades
and assignments.
Sixth - Foreground,
Middleground, Background 2/27 - Reviewed foreground, middleground, and background
concepts with a video (posted in Google Classroom). Throwing on the wheel
Students are rotating in pairs each art class to practice throwing on the
wheel. They are exploring how to center the clay, open it up, and pull to
create a cylinder. They also will use sculpting tools to finish the piece.
Audrey and David worked on the wheel. Art Project: "Fun" Reflection
For this project, students create an artwork based on the theme
"fun". They are to use any medium that best fits the project,
thinking about composition and creating a focal point. Foreground, Middleground, Background
Students will complete a project that includes foreground, middleground,
background, overlapping elements, and diminishing size.
Seventh - Talking about
"Space" and how it is used in art 2/28 - Students learned about different
ways to give the illusion of depth on a two dimensional surface, and added
visual notes to their art journal. 2/27 - Students reviewed positive and
negative space from their art journal warm up and watched a video that showed
various examples. Self Guided Clay Project
Students are using the skills and inspiration from the clay warm up trinket box
they have completed. They are exploring other ways to use pinch, slab, coil,
sculpting and joining clay pieces of their own design. Art Project: Using "Space"
Students completed an art journal warm-up, which features positive and negative
space. For this projects students will expand on the idea of using the element
of art, space. How do artists create the look of depth, and add dimension on a
two-dimensional surface? Students need to think about foreground/background,
how to use value, how to use size, how does color change to show depth?
Eighth - Complementary
Paper Weaving 2/28
- Students cut the complement to the loom paper into strips to weave for the
finished artwork. Art Project: "My World"
For this project students created an artwork based on the theme "My
World". They are to use any medium that best fits the project, thinking
about composition and creating a focal point. Art Project: All About Color To further explore color (one of the elements
of art) students will create a representational project where the composition
includes all of the hues in the color wheel, plus neutrals, and black and
white.
Computer Lab with Lorraine:
This week the students started a new project using Thinglink.com. This project is to create a "Poster Like" image of 10 Spanish vocabulary words from their upcoming unit. This will help student learn their words using images as well as sound. The students will link the images to a url using Google Translate. While in Thinglink students can use various icons or "tags" to have a user hoover over to learn the word or to hear the word using a link to Google Translate.P.E. and Health with Matt:
